BACKGROUND / STUFFED MUSSELS

‘Midye Dolma’ is a Turkish name of stuffed mussels that contain herbed and spiced rice. It is a popular street food snack in Turkiye. The mussel tastes meaty and rice is nicely spiced.

It originates from Ottoman empire in 19th century. In the 1960s ‘midye dolma’ stuffed mussels with rice preparation as a street food snack began in Istanbul Galata district. Over years it has become popular and widespread as a seafood snack in many cities.

Mussels are particularly rich with omega 3, selenium, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and vitamines A, B1, B2, B6, B12 and C. Freshly served stuffed mussels with rice is very nutritious under hygienic conditions.
